Enviah and Lorissa MacAllister distinguished and sharpened their brands.
Lorissa MacAllister, founder and president of Enviah, is a leading researcher and national thought leader developing ways to align built environments with both the metrics of human thriving and organizational success. Enviah applies these principles primarily within the healthcare industry. But Enviah isn’t exactly an architectural firm—in fact, there wasn’t really a single word that described what they did.
The Enviah team came to Black Lake to solve this problem, and we helped them sharpen their brand and tell their story more clearly so potential clients would understand what they do and why it is important.
Enviah’s brand and Lorissa’s personal brand needed to be clearly distinguished.
Enviah focuses on designing healthcare spaces driven by the twin values of health and care.
Lorissa’s thought leadership aims to create spaces where people can thrive by focusing on four key principles: evidence, engagement, equipping, and environment.
Once Black Lake had honed these two complementary brands and their messaging, we got to work building websites and marketing materials. We have continued to work with Enviah and Lorissa to further develop their brands and leverage them in their respective spheres.
“We’re an entrepreneurial company on the leading edge of an emerging twenty-first-century industry, without well-established categories to describe our work. Black Lake helped us define our identity, clarify our story, organize, improve, and expand our content, and communicate verbally and visually in a way that has made our customers take notice. They know how to build a brand that people understand and engage with.”

Black Lake guided Enviah and Lorissa through the process of unveiling and beginning to own their brands and clarified messaging. Since the launch, we have consulted with the Enviah team on how to continue sharpening their message and target the right audiences. We have also continued to work with Lorissa to clarify and spread her ideas, leverage her brand, and increase her influence. Most recently, we helped Enviah clarify the next stage of development for its brand. We then reimagined and rebuilt Enviah’s website based on this evolution.
