Cory Lakatos, General Manager at Black Lake Studio, urges you to be that brand that plans ahead and executes an effective strategy.
I was recently scrolling down my Facebook feed when I happened across this gem:
Now, this image may or may not be legit, but the irony is still highly amusing. It’s implied that the faculty at this college are not nearly as accomplished at architecture or planning as they’d like us to believe. The worst part is that there would be enough room for all of the letters if they had only shifted the whole title a little bit to the right. There is no reason for this error to have occurred, it would appear, other than a failure to plan ahead.
We’ve all heard the cliches: “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” “Hope is not a plan.” They might seem like tired platitudes, but as Black Lake’s own Greg Smith likes to say, sayings usually become cliches because there’s actually some truth to them.
So with that in mind, let me ask you a couple of questions: Is 2016 going to be a better year for you than 2015 was? Are you going to capture more customers or donors? Is your brand going to achieve greater recognition in your community? Are you going to achieve your mission to a greater extent than you ever have before?
If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, riddle me this: What’s going to make it happen? You’re not going to succeed and grow just by doing exactly what you’ve always done in the past. To quote another old cliche, “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.” If your organization is going to grow and thrive in 2016, you have to lay out a realistic plan to get there. Then you actually have to assign roles and do the work.
At Black Lake, we specialize in strategic planning for businesses and nonprofits. Once we’ve put the work in to understand your organization and its audiences, we’ll guide you through the process of developing an achievable marketing or brand rollout plan.
Will your plan succeed? The answer will be “No” if you never even make a plan. Get ahead of the game. Black Lake can help you get there.
